Yin Yoga

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is combines the stillest poses of ancient Hatha Yoga with the philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In yin yoga classes, you’ll only experience poses that are done from the floor (seated, lying prone, or reclined), and each pose is held in stillness for between 3 and 6 minutes. Rather than targeting the muscles, yin yoga focuses on fascia and other connective tissue, which requires an incredibly slow and mindful approach. “Yin” energy, the cooler, slower, denser, more restful energy of the universe, balances our very “yang” modern lives, and allows for free flowing energy through the meridians. We often pair yin yoga with sound healing, so that the vibrations from singing bowls can help increase the movement of energy through the body’s channels. Expect to feel rested, open, and deeply relaxed after a yin yoga class at Niantic Yoga.
